Nice find. Most people think of Cooper in regard to his works set on the American frontier, such as "The Last of the Mohicans," and don't realize that he had been a sailor in the U. S. Navy and quite knowledgeable on seafaring.

Thanks for the link Bobby. That was very interesting. Especially the part where the ship he was serving on was boarded and he was impressed into the Royal Navy. :hatsoff:

I always think of Mark Twain's hilariously scathing critique of Fennimore Cooper, appropriately entitled "Fennimore Cooper's Literary Offenses".
