On the 15th of April 1805, crewmembers of the HMS Papillon captured the Spanish privateer Conception off the west coast of Jamaica. When the Papillon, under the command of William Woolsey, received intelligence concerning the Spanish felucca, the British recognized that the Spanish would flee if they spotted the British brig approaching. Woolsey gave orders for Lieutenant Prieur and 25 men to approach the target under disguise of a borrowed shallop. The Spaniards allowed the British to come alongside before they realized the ruse. The British fired a volley of musketry and then boarded. Four minutes later, Prieur successfully captured the Conception, with only two of his men slightly wounded.
