There you go, Bligh. See what you think of those.

I found two US distributors on the internet, but they are on the other side of the country, and don't have any pictures. How do you know what to pick? I may have to take you up on your kindness. How challenging is it for a 1" sloop to make an Atlantic crossing?

Thank you for the magnificent cards Dobbs.
please remember what I said about a Langton base if you are stuck.

Rob, I'll take you up on your generosity. Tell me what you need from me to make it happen.

Oh, and I was reading "Master and Commander" and saw a reference to an action with a single masted vessel with 10 guns. They referred to her as a Cutter (not to be confused with the ship's boat cutter). Do you want me to change the Picture Card?

Comparison charts for British three-deckers and 74s/80s in 1/1000 scale complete. Considering new charts for whatever French 74's and frigates I can find draughts for, and already have one started for British frigates and heavy (26-30-gun) post-ships.

I think you are right about the Card. Cutter would fit it best. I would be pleased if you could change it for me.

Here you go, Rob. I lowered the crew to 44, as that still seemed like a lot of folks on a small boat.

Do you think the firing arcs are close together enough or should I snug them in a bit more? I did not realize how small the hull was, but I was on the fence.

I will have to check which Frigate it was Dobbs.
The sails were just in my bits box after I cut up a Frigate for a sinking ship.
As for the Arcs of fire you may wish to refine them somewhat, but if not I am happy with them. I doubt very much if my vessel will ever fire a shot in anger other than one across a Merchantman's bows.

After some more reading about these ships I feel that with reinforced hulls to accommodate the recoil of the Mortars it should have a hull factor of Four rather than one. The crew size accounts for the fact that the ships company were often augmented by Artillery Gunners to serve the Mortars.

You must post a picture of it in action once you have it finished.
I'm still working out trajectories for Bombs. From what I can gather they could fire a hollow shell rather further than ships could project ball, but it would need an expert to examine the truth of this and say if smaller calibere ball would reach a Bomb from an elevated position, hence the preference to plasce a bomb behind a headland and spot the fall of the shell from another ship standing off.

This is excellent material for another project after I build my harbor. I've got some items on order from brigademodels and am working on finalizing an order from Langton's. Next I've got to get a printer so I can start modifying and diversifying my Fleet.

Thank you Rob and Alistair for some guidance on this Bomb Ketch project complete with stat cards and images.

I love it, Rob! I never thought about increasing the Burden but reducing the number of hull boxes. Following your lead, I have changed my bomb ketch to a Burden of 2 and 5 hull boxes, and a crew of 67 (tougher than a sloop, but not as tough as an Amazon frigate).

A question for Bligh and Dobbs from a SGN beginner. What software are you using to develop the new ship cards and templates? I'm interested in expanding some of the existing ships to others of the same class (such as a third Argonauta 74 for my Spanish fleet).

    Hi Richard,

I use Paint, then paste it into a Word document to do the text. I found a place online to download the SoG font for free (or something really close); Bauer Bodoni LT Bold Cond Regular (I don't remember the exact site). Sometimes I save it as a PDF when I'm done to make it stable between computers.

The Business of the commander-in-chief is first to bring an enemy fleet to battle on the most advantageous terms to himself, (I mean that of laying his ships close on board the enemy, as expeditiously as possible); and secondly to continue them there until the business is decided.

Yet another thank you needed Julián. This time also for the Rep you have kindly given to me.

    That is beautiful, Rob!

I wish I had put a little more effort into my terrain of the same place, especially the forts. Yours are great!

That is very kind of you to say so Jonas, but I must say that your model was the inspiration for my work. I only expanded on what you started and was lucky enough to find some paintings which gave me the chance to extend the accuracy a little.
I should therefore thank you for getting the ball rolling in the first place.

I was looking at the same paintings but couldn't find the models to replicate them.

You have used other buildings to add variety to the simple fort that is almost the only one available. That is very smart.

I might just "fix" my model. There's some other things I wanted to change.

If only I had time for everything...

The extra appendages for the large fort were from Brigade models cut down Jonas, and the fort on Nelson Island was scratch built with the addition of a small hut from Brigade and guns from the ACW set.
