    Default Dutchman boarding

    Hi guys (and girls),
I just joined this site which I'm sure I will find just as friendly and helpfull as "the Aerodrome"", where I'm also a member (same name: Aardvark1430). The reason for joining is that I was recently given two ships for the SoG game by a "friend", who just lured me into a new game
Actually, I like it and bought two ships myself, some counters and shipmats. Now to find a rulebook. And a gamemat (or 2) and ...
My fleet at the moment consists of the French Sibylle, HMS Fairy, HMS Concorde and HMS Iphigenia.
I guess I'll see if I can change some ships into Dutch ships. I think I will take French ships for that undertaking.

    Some info on myself:
I'm a Dutch (you guessed that ...) OAP (68 years old), living in The Hague.
I've been a modeller since I was a kid and have been wargaming since the early eighties.
    My other games are:
    * Wings of War/Glory (both WW1 and WW2),
    * Flames of War WW2 (and some WW1)
    * WW2 gaming in 1/285 (1/300, 6mm) using old WRG rules
    * WW2 naval games in 1/2400, using World War Two Naval Wargame Rules (Skytrex, 1983)
    * 1880 - 1910 Colonial Wars in 25mm, using the Sword and the Flame ruleset revision 1, 1984)

If anybody is interested in more info, just ask here or PM me.
    cheers,
    Guus

Good to have you alongside Guus.
Do join me in my Great Cabin for a glass or three of Oude Jenever.
We can while away the time whilst I regale you with the yarn of how I came by it in the first place.....

    Bligh.
The Business of the commander-in-chief is first to bring an enemy fleet to battle on the most advantageous terms to himself, (I mean that of laying his ships close on board the enemy, as expeditiously as possible); and secondly to continue them there until the business is decided.

A warm welcome to the Anchorage!

The rulebook is available online from Ares' official Sails of Glory website.

Larry's old The Flame and the Sword... Were you active on colonial wars back in the days of Major General Tremorden Rederring's Colonial-era Wargaming Page?

    Hi Jonas,
i'll go and download the rules there. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction

I'm afraid I have never heard of "Major General Tremorden Rederring's Colonial-era Wargaming Page" and I'm afraid I can't remember when I first started with the Sword and the Flame. Mid eighties I guess ...
    cheers,

There was a mailing list as internet communities were in the early days (mid 90ies) that was called "colonial wars". It was much fun and had a very humorous take on the world. There was a web page made by a gaming group in Texas in the late 90ies, early 2000s that had that great humor. It was very inspiring!

    Hi Guus,

Welcome to this part of the "... of Glory" hobby. As you know I have some Dutch vs British scenario's ready for playtesting. I did enjoy our WW II German vs Dutch May 1940 battle.

I have seen them. Fun read and great pictures, but I find it hard to beat the humor of MajGen Tremorden Rederring.

Welcome Gus, from Bristol, I was lucky enough to live in Den Haag myself for a couple of years when I was working in Amsterdam, I lived in the Uilennest district, or that area anyway. Very fond memories

Re what Chris said in post 14.
When you get to Doncaster we must also talk about my summers spent in your lovely country. My uncle by marriage owned a garage on Rembrandt Straat for many years, and I used to visit as a young lad and help/hinder him with mending cars.
They had a house on Sportlaan.

Rob, I don't think you will recognize the Rembrandstraat ... most if not all the old houses have been torn down and new appartments have been built. But it still is just a short distance from the "jenever-museum"
    cheers,
    Guus
