Default Not so new new guy

I've been gaming for nearly 40 years, mostly landlubber stuff. Never considered myself a modeler. I'm a big advocate of the three foot rule. With that said I love the SOG miniatures but I thought a little extra would go a long ways. So here is my first attempt. Name: image.jpg

Excellent! How did you do the rat lines? They look great, and welcome to the site!

Welcome to the anchorage, nicely done there.
I also have done similar on my ships but have not given the hull and sails a wash as it looks like you have done, what did you use ?

Have a look at my album Rigging and would be happy to share notes.
I am in the process of making a rigging how to, just real life getting in the way at the moment

A fine metamorphosis Tom. Transformed from a cygnet into a beautiful Swan.
Maybe you should rename it the Leander.

Thanks to all. The wash is Valejo brown. The rat line material is some fine mesh I found in the remnant section of my fabric store.

I was wondering if we could get something like it at a hat shop or maybe mosquito netting?

I found some black netting material in a local haberdashery store, but could not get the material to remain sturdy.
So in the end that is why I went with Langtons brass etched ratlines

Hmmm I have some very fine plastic window screening, just used some for the radiators on my Akron . . .

Size: 258.3 KBHere is a piece of that material. It is very much like mosquito netting. It came in white but I gave it a dusting of black spray paint. It stiffened it up a bit, but it in no way adds rigidity to the model as brass would. I also included a shot of my British frigate. Not entirely satisfied but it does pass my three foot rule. My HMS Victory, using Langtons ratlines.
The problem here is the scale.
    But
I found you use Langtons PE9 for the lower main mast, but cut off the top two rungs, then use PE2 and use these for the rest but go down 1
Ie the main mast pair use on the foremast, foremast on the mizzen mast, mizzen mast becomes main mast upper, etc etc.
    Hope that makes sense
