    This drink is named after the Bombay Castle. H.M.S. Bombay Castle (shown in the painting) was a 74-gun ship of the line which ran aground on the shoals at the mouth of the Tagus river on 21st December 1796. attempts to float her off failed and she was abandoned as a wreck.

    I take it that you are referring to the Union Flag flying from the foremast, Rob. Nowadays the Royal Navy only flies a Union Flag from the masthead to indicate the presence of the Sovereign or an Admiral of the Fleet on board. If it is flown from the yardarm it indicates that a court martial is taking place on board.

    Admiral Lord Howe flew an earlier version of the Union Flag from the mainmast of the Queen Charlotte at the Battle of the Glorious First of June, according to the famous painting.

    The Herndon Climb is held every May. 21ft high and saturated with 50lbs of lard. "The Climb" signifies a Plebe's ascension to a fourth class Midshipman. A tall glass is needed to pay homage to a tall monument. It was only fitting to create a tasty Pilsner."
