:salute: Having just purchased my 30th ship and seeing the poll on starter sets, I was wondering just how deep some of us have gone into Fleets for Sails. I am only interested in Official models so far.

I know my count isn't as high as Gunner's, but five starter sets is probably indicative of my addiction to the game. I'll be all set if/when Ares actually releases their 'Fleet Rules".
1 starter set and 4 extra ships is my lot for now. This is more due to my lack of expendable income to be honest. I will invest further if Ares move to the Tudor era without doubt.
 All , but the kick-starters .
Why does it only go up to 50
Way more than I can paint/customize/play with before my time is up (maybe not:pray:).
Either way, they will end up in good hands.
Five starter sets alone is a good fleet. But I know you have much more in reserve.
Like you, I'll be happy to see the Ares Fleet Rules. I also need to read and study , GMT's Blue Cross, White Ensign and Osprey's Fighting Sail-Fleet Actions more than I have.:drinks:
I have two complete Wave 1 sets (alla KS), and one Wave 2 set, with the KS exclusives and a few extras for repaints (eventually). Oh, and the Constitution and Victory. I haven't bought any of the Wave 1 new paints - sitting on the fence regarding the Spanish. I almost bought some of the ships I am selling for our FLGS, but withheld.
Well, it's really feels good to know I'm not alone with the "Over 50" crowd!!!
And I doubt I'm finished yet!!!!
You're still a pup Paul. Soo many years of gaming and other fun stuff left.
When you stop, you get old.
Hiccup
I'll really be sunk when the Spanish 3 deckers come out!!
Thank you, Ed, but it is no problem. I am waiting to broaden my collection with different types of ships than expanding with multiples of sculpts, though the price was tempting.
I doubt I will ever run games with more than a dozen or so ships, maybe up to 15. What I have, already, easily accommodates that. I am looking to widen the range of scenarios that I can run, and that requires different rates, especially toward the smaller end of the scale.
My current standing is
RN. 5 x 1st Rates, 15 x 3rd Rates, 15 x 5th Rates and 2 x 6th Rates
French 5 x 1st Rates, 11 x 3rd Rates, 12 x 5th Rates and 2 x 6th Rates
Spain 2 x 3rd Rates and 2 x 5th Rates
USN 1x 5th Rate and 1 x 6 th Rate
Can't wait for wave 3
Kenneth made a point on another thread about the nature of the flag on any given ship. That factor has kept me holding off on the Spanish releases, especially given the pennant idea Jim (Nightmoss) developed last year. I think my collection will grow at the pace of releases reflecting different classes.
Whether or not I collect Spanish ships, when Ares produces the ST, I will order it.
Right Eric.
It is another of the iconic ships like the Orient, Constitution, and Victory.
Rob.
1st Rates: 5 x French, 3 x British + 2 x Victory = 10
3rd Rates: 24 x Téméraires, 11 x Elizabeth/Edgar/etc., 1 x Duke razee = 36
5th Rates: 1 x Constitution, 1 x Indefatigable, 5 x 40 gun, 9 x 32/28 gun = 16
Unrated: 3 x Ship sloop, 1 x Brig = 4
Total of 66.
2 x Wrecks of Témérairs
This includes the KS ships and three starter sets.
I still believe I will stop short of 100, but it might be tight with at least two 50s (Leander & Leopard), ~2 64s and a few Meregildos and some more 74s, if they make the Santisima Trinidad one of those and then some merchants and pirates...
Kickstarter: 4x2 / 4 = 8
Starter Set: 4x2 / 4 = 8 = 16/16
Wave 1A: 8x2 / 8 = 16 = 32/32
Wave 1A+: 4x2 / 4 = 8 = 40/40
Wave 2: 12x2 / 12 = 24 = 52/52
Specials: 2 / 2 = 2 = 54/54
OOPS! Mis-voted...
I've got 20 to 30.
Will be more with the next wave. :moneygone:
Funded by ex X-Wing?
Uli kept me informed of the recent game between the U.S. and Germany with PMs after each goal. When I was young, I wanted to play soccer so much, but it was relatively non-existent. Now, it is quite popular, and the U.S. is starting to have home-grown players of decent quality.
I think that I have reached 50 but I do not own enough ship mats to put them all into play at once and extra ship mats are hard to obtain.
To field that many, you might want to look for sea colored felt or some other material, not to mention use other than SOG rules, until Ares comes out with their promise fleet rules.
I do not think that I would want to put them all into play at once. I have bought a 3 metre length of blue leatherette table covering but by ship mats I actually meant the cardboard ship control mats.
Ah so, now I understand.
I have an extra pack (SGN505A)which is 4 mats that you can have for the postage it would cost me to ship it to Norfolk:beer:
That is an incredibly generous offer, Ed, thank you very much. :salute: :hatsoff:Please do not be offended but I would like to decline your offer. I do own enough ship control mats for my immediate needs and the foreseeable future. My remark about them being hard to obtain was not a plea for some but more of a comment on the scarcity of accessories over here in Britain.
I think there is only one Ares distributor for UK, who ships to all game shops in the UK. I would think it's as and when he/they stock up to distribute.
Having taken the plunge further I now have 20 official ships. I think enough for my requirements.
I just ordered three of the cheap bargains with broken masts from the Oberst, so have now 33 ships. That means I will have one of each type to dis-mast as wrecks.
That should cover our needs between us for events Neil.
Rob.
Not many ships , very limited time to play, no one really interested in my area. So I don't need many
Interest isn't very strong here either. We have a small band of friends who play games together. Currently, I am taking them through WWII with WoG. We played some WGF and SoG, but for most of the folks, it is more of something fun to do with each other than any inherent interest in aviation or AoS. There is a wargame group that draws from several towns in an hour radius. I think they primarily focus on land-based minis, and another WWI aviation game.
My own post is now out of date as I have just topped the 40 mark.
Bligh.
I waited to vote until I could vote 50+. I knew where I was heading. A bit over 60 and waiting for the next release...
I wish I could mark 50+, or at least 10-20
But for now it's 6 (recently arrived rainforcement - Royal G. and Le Berwick).
For now it must suffice, but it probably will someday change... (I hope)
Just got my 16th ship!
